Tiktok for Storytelling
Since kids nowadays are well-versed with using platforms like Tiktok, why not use it to make learning more fun?
The idea of using Tiktok for storytelling came about after I saw a video uploaded by my student. In that clip, she used the green screen effect to change her video background. I was super amazed with her Tiktok and so I asked her: "Was it hard doing this clip?" She responded with: "It's a piece of cake, teacher!"
We cannot deny the fact that the generation of students in the present day is very knowledgeable with using technology and taking advantage of different social media platforms. They scroll through different videos and content every day looking for something that can entertain them. Sometimes they even create their own and share it publicly. So, why not combine the hobby they love with our classroom activities? They already know how to make use of Tiktok. However, this time we'll give them a challenge of telling a story in English.
How to do this activity?
- Prepare the stories that students can use. However, make sure to give them the freedom to use stories that are not included in your list (maybe a story they have written).
- Read the story aloud and model the different emotions that students must be able to portray. By doing this, students will have a better understanding of what is expected from them.
- Ask some students to read their chosen story aloud and give them feedback.
- Explain to them how they will be graded. For this activity, I told them that they were primary school English teachers so they need to make their movements and acting bigger. Since their students were very young, I asked them to be sure of their pronunciation and be entertaining.

PS. My students are regular ones, not enrolled in EP or MEP. In Thai education system, it's ศิลป์ภาษา, but we have developed our curriculum and changed our class into EClass or English Class.
